A reading, and nothing else

A finance team we talked to keeps a folder called "to read." It fills up faster than anyone can empty it. Invoices in a dozen layouts. A contract where the one number that matters is buried on page 41. Scanned receipts, a few of them upside down. Statements that arrive as pictures of paper.

Every week someone opens that folder and does the same quiet work by hand: read each one, find the handful of facts that matter, type them somewhere they can actually be used. It is careful work, and it does not scale. Hire more people and the folder still wins.

That folder is why we built Lectio. (Lectio is Latin for a reading.)

One thing, done well

Lectio does one thing. You give it a document, and it gives you back a reading.

A reading is whatever you actually needed from the page. Sometimes that is just the words, cleaned up and readable, ready for a person or an assistant to pick up. Sometimes it is the few facts you were after, the invoice number, the total, the due date, lifted out and handed back in a tidy, predictable shape you can drop straight into your system.

You tell Lectio which of those two you want. That is the whole conversation. Nothing to assemble, no systems to connect, no setup work before you see your first result. Send a document, get a reading back.

Why "and nothing else" is the point

Most tools in this space keep adding. Template builders. Libraries to manage. A separate step to sort the documents, another to read them, another to tidy them up. Before long you are not buying a tool, you are assembling one, and the folder is still full.

We went the other way. We left things out on purpose, so that the thing you came for, turning a document into something useful, is the only thing in front of you. The restraint is the product. If a feature would put one more step between you and your reading, it does not go in.

When you genuinely need more, the rest of the family is there: a durable place to do heavier work in Cella, and the model muscle behind every reading in Lux. But those are things you reach for when you want them, not a tax you pay just to get started.

One relationship, not three

The other thing the folder quietly costs you is bookkeeping. The usual way to solve document reading means signing up with three companies: one to read, one for the AI behind it, one to hold the files. Three logins, three bills, three things to reconcile at the end of the quarter.

With Lectio it is one relationship and one bill, and one clear record of what was read, when, and by whom. Each reading shows you where on the page every answer came from, so you can trust it without going back and reading the document yourself.

And if the reading is all you ever want, that works too. Lectio stands on its own.
